Greyhounds

New to live racing? If you’ve never done it before, placing a bet can seem intimidating. But once you know the lingo, you’ll be picking like the pros! Of course, our skilled and knowledgeable tellers are always happy to assist you at the window!

We’ve created this easy-to-understand tips to help you wager with confidence.

Pari-Mutuel Wagering

The “greyt” thing about betting the dogs is that the majority of the money wagered goes right back into the hands of the bettors.

The track, the state and greyhound owners simply receive a straight percentage of the money wagered. The rest of the money is placed back into the pools and paid out proportionally to the winner(s).

The number of people who correctly pick the winning dog(s) determine the odds, and therefore, the payoff amount.

How To Place A Bet

Once you decide what type of bet you want to make and the dog(s) you wish to bet on, proceed to any mutuel teller to place your bet. When you get to the “teller,” you need to tell them:

  1. What track you wish to bet on. (Especially if different from Southland Casino Racing.)
  2. Which race number you want to bet on. (You can bet on any race in the performance at anytime until it runs.)
  3. What is the base amount of your bet? (Such as $2, $1 or a dime.)
  4. What type of wager you want. (Win, Quiniela, etc.)
  5. The number (not the name) of the dog(s) you want to bet on.
